Protocols: A protocol is a set of instructions, which are used to describe the way how the information is transforming from Client system to server and server to client system.
StateFul Protocols : This protocol can maintain the state of application, it means they can transfer the values from one page to another page.
Ex: TCP/IP. Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol.
In windows application we are using these protocols only.
Stateless Protocols:  These protocols can’t maintain the state of the application , it means they can’t carry the previous values and responses from one page to another page.
In Web Applications we are using these protocols, because they won’t carry the previous request and responses. That is the reason why they consume less network resource and increases the performance of the application.

How do I get ads for my website or Blog?
I am thinking of setting up a website. I understand that advertising could be an attractive way to generate revenues. I am a technical person and have no clue as to how I can attract advertisers to advertise on my future website. Also, going to advertisers and making advertising arrangements seems like a very long, and time and resource consuming activity. Do I need to hire someone to call these potential advertisers? Who do we talk to for getting the ads? The whole thing seems so complex and very discouraging. How do you get your ads? Can you help?

Dear Lost:

Oh dear! This is such a hot topic for books, magazines, newspapers, television, online discussions, and so on. You certainly did not pick a narrow or offbeat topic. While the topic is broad and volumes can be written on it, we will attempt to outline a brief introduction to the subject.

We wish not to discuss how iMahal manages its advertisers and advertising. Also note that the names of companies mentioned here are strictly for illustrative purposes, and such mention does not constitute an endorsement, explicit or implied, of iMahal, in any way, shape or form. With this disclaimer in mind, let us turn to the topic at hand.

Advertising on the web is a rapidly evolving area. You just have to look at the income statements of such companies as AOL, Yahoo! etc. to realize that advertising is an attractive source of revenue for websites. Large companies like AOL and Yahoo! can afford to have their own salesforce for selling ad space. Small companies, and particularly startups, can not afford such an expensive cash outflow while focusing on gaining a footing in the marketplace. This is obviously a problem for small companies, and perhaps even medium size companies.

As we know, whenever there is a need, there are clever people who would target the market opportunity and solve the problem to make money, and this area of advertising is no different. "Intermediaries" such as DoubleClick, Flycast, Engage, etc. have emerged to bridge the gap between the advertisers and web businesses. These intermediaries employ a salesforce to "buy" the ad inventory from advertisers on the one hand, and employ a salesforce to "sell" the ad inventory to web businesses on the other. In the process, they get a cut of the ad revenue. Their commission varies, but 25-40% is typical. The ad revenue itself varies based on the advertiser's ability to target specific customer segments on a particular website. Advertisers pay anywhere from $5 per CPM for little to no targeting, to upwards of $40 per CPM for precision targeting of lucrative customer segments. By the way, CPM stands for count per thousand (M is the accounting lingo for thousand), and is equivalent to one thousand impressions (or "viewings").

To illustrate this, let us take an example. Assume that the intermediary contracts with an advertiser for $5 per CPM to deliver non-precision targeting. In other words, the advertiser wants to "display" the ad to a not-particularly-targeted customer segment and will pay $5 per 1,000 impressions (or pages served with advertiser's ad, assuming one ad per page). Now the intermediary has to sell these ads and have them displayed on websites with matching criteria, agreed upon with the advertiser. Assume now that you make arrangements with the intermediary to display those ads, for a revenue spilt of 60-40 in your favor. When you display those ads on your site for 1,000 impressions, you can collect $3 from the intermediary. In the process, the intermediary makes $2.

Intermediaries buy ad inventories from many advertisers, with stipulated targeting conditions, and sell them to many websites who in aggregate meet the stipulated targeting conditions of the advertisers. Clever arrangement, isn't it? Well, it works out well for all parties involved. Advertisers do not have to negotiate with millions of websites, and websites do not have to expend resources on sales people to sell ad space. The intermediary comes to the rescue, and gets a cut of the action.

The arrangement described above is the most typical of banner advertising-the rectangular ads your see at the top of a webpage. There are also "affiliate" programs. Generally, you can sign up for these programs on the web and do not have to negotiate anything with anyone. Effectively, you agree to all stipulated conditions and arrangements stated right there on the web about advertisers. The payment may be based on impressions, click-throughs (when a user on your site clicks on the ad to go to the advertiser's site), transactions (when a your from your site clicks on an ad to go to the advertiser's site and conducts a transaction). The arrangement is typically characterized as per CPM rate, or per click-through, or percent or number of transactions.

These are the most common practices in web advertising. Multitudes of variations on these practices are also in use today. But that is the topic of discussion for another book or books.

How To Make My Computer Fast

Since defragging the disk won't do much to improve Windows XP performance, here are 23 suggestions that will. Each can enhance the performance and reliability of your customers' PCs. Best of all, most of them will cost you nothing.
To decrease a system's boot time and increase system performance, use the money you save by not buying defragmentation software -- the built-in Windows defragmenter works just fine -- and instead equip the computer with an Ultra-133 or Serial ATA hard drive with 8-MB cache buffer.
If a PC has less than 512 MB of RAM, add more memory. This is a relatively inexpensive and easy upgrade that can dramatically improve system performance.
Ensure that Windows XP is utilizing the NTFS file system. If you're not sure, here's how to check: First, double-click the My Computer icon, right-click on the C: Drive, then select Properties. Next, examine the File System type; if it says FAT32, then back-up any important data. Next, click Start, click Run, type CMD, and then click OK. At the prompt, type CONVERT C: /FS:NTFS and press the Enter key. This process may take a while; it's important that the computer be uninterrupted and virus-free. The file system used by the bootable drive will be either FAT32 or NTFS. I highly recommend NTFS for its superior security, reliability, and efficiency with larger disk drives.
Disable file indexing. The indexing service extracts information from documents and other files on the hard drive and creates a "searchable keyword index." As you can imagine, this process can be quite taxing on any system.The idea is that the user can search for a word, phrase, or property inside a document, should they have hundreds or thousands of documents and not know the file name of the document they want. Windows XP's built-in search functionality can still perform these kinds of searches without the Indexing service. It just takes longer. The OS has to open each file at the time of the request to help find what the user is looking for.Most people never need this feature of search. Those who do are typically in a large corporate environment where thousands of documents are located on at least one server. But if you're a typical system builder, most of your clients are small and medium businesses. And if your clients have no need for this search feature, I recommend disabling it.Here's how: First, double-click the My Computer icon. Next, right-click on the C: Drive, then select Properties. Uncheck "Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching." Next, apply changes to "C: subfolders and files," and click OK. If a warning or error message appears (such as "Access is denied"), click the Ignore All button.
Update the PC's video and motherboard chipset drivers. Also, update and configure the BIOS. For more information on how to configure your BIOS properly, see this article on my site.
Empty the Windows Prefetch folder every three months or so. Windows XP can "prefetch" portions of data and applications that are used frequently. This makes processes appear to load faster when called upon by the user. That's fine. But over time, the prefetch folder may become overloaded with references to files and applications no longer in use. When that happens, Windows XP is wasting time, and slowing system performance, by pre-loading them. Nothing critical is in this folder, and the entire contents are safe to delete.
Once a month, run a disk cleanup. Here's how: Double-click the My Computer icon. Then right-click on the C: drive and select Properties. Click the Disk Cleanup button -- it's just to the right of the Capacity pie graph -- and delete all temporary files.
In your Device Manager, double-click on the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers device, and ensure that DMA is enabled for each drive you have connected to the Primary and Secondary controller. Do this by double-clicking on Primary IDE Channel. Then click the Advanced Settings tab. Ensure the Transfer Mode is set to "DMA if available" for both Device 0 and Device 1. Then repeat this process with the Secondary IDE Channel.
Upgrade the cabling. As hard-drive technology improves, the cabling requirements to achieve these performance boosts have become more stringent. Be sure to use 80-wire Ultra-133 cables on all of your IDE devices with the connectors properly assigned to the matching Master/Slave/Motherboard sockets. A single device must be at the end of the cable; connecting a single drive to the middle connector on a ribbon cable will cause signaling problems. With Ultra DMA hard drives, these signaling problems will prevent the drive from performing at its maximum potential. Also, because these cables inherently support "cable select," the location of each drive on the cable is important. For these reasons, the cable is designed so drive positioning is explicitly clear.
Remove all spyware from the computer. Use free programs such as AdAware by Lavasoft or SpyBot Search & Destroy. Once these programs are installed, be sure to check for and download any updates before starting your search. Anything either program finds can be safely removed. Any free software that requires spyware to run will no longer function once the spyware portion has been removed; if your customer really wants the program even though it contains spyware, simply reinstall it. Remove any unnecessary programs and/or items from Windows Startup routine using the MSCONFIG utility. Here's how: First, click Start, click Run, type MSCONFIG, and click OK. Click the StartUp tab, then uncheck any items you don't want to start when Windows starts. Unsure what some items are? Visit the WinTasks Process Library. It contains known system processes, applications, as well as spyware references and explanations. Or quickly identify them by searching for the filenames using Google or another Web search engine.
Turn off any and all unnecessary animations, and disable active desktop. In fact, for optimal performance, turn off all animations. Windows XP offers many different settings in this area. Here's how to do it: First click on the System icon in the Control Panel. Next, click on the Advanced tab. Select the Settings button located under Performance. Feel free to play around with the options offered here, as nothing you can change will alter the reliability of the computer -- only its responsiveness.
Remove any unnecessary or unused programs from the Add/Remove Programs section of the Control Panel.
If your customer is an advanced user who is comfortable editing their registry, try some of the performance registry tweaks offered at Tweak XP.
Visit Microsoft's Windows update site regularly, and download all updates labeled Critical. Download any optional updates at your discretion.
Make sure the customer has fewer than 500 type fonts installed on their computer. The more fonts they have, the slower the system will become. While Windows XP handles fonts much more efficiently than did the previous versions of Windows, too many fonts -- that is, anything over 500 -- will noticeably tax the system.
Update the customer's anti-virus software on a weekly, even daily, basis. Make sure they have only one anti-virus software package installed. Mixing anti-virus software is a sure way to spell disaster for performance and reliability.
Check the system's RAM to ensure it is operating properly. I recommend using a free program called MemTest86. The download will make a bootable CD or diskette (your choice), which will run 10 extensive tests on the PC's memory automatically after you boot to the disk you created. Allow all tests to run until at least three passes of the 10 tests are completed. If the program encounters any errors, turn off and unplug the computer, remove a stick of memory (assuming you have more than one), and run the test again. Remember, bad memory cannot be repaired, but only replaced.
If the PC has a CD or DVD recorder, check the drive manufacturer's Web site for updated firmware. In some cases you'll be able to upgrade the recorder to a faster speed. Best of all, it's free.
Do not partition the hard drive. Windows XP's NTFS file system runs more efficiently on one large partition. The data is no safer on a separate partition, and a reformat is never necessary to reinstall an operating system. The same excuses people offer for using partitions apply to using a folder instead. For example, instead of putting all your data on the D: drive, put it in a folder called "D drive." You'll achieve the same organizational benefits that a separate partition offers, but without the degradation in system performance. Also, your free space won't be limited by the size of the partition; instead, it will be limited by the size of the entire hard drive. This means you won't need to resize any partitions, ever. That task can be time-consuming and also can result in lost data.
At least once a year, open the computer's cases and blow out all the dust and debris. While you're in there, check that all the fans are turning properly. Also inspect the motherboard capacitors for bulging or leaks. For more information on this leaking-capacitor phenomena, you can read numerous articles on my site.
If you're sick of a single Windows Explorer window crashing and then taking the rest of your OS down with it, then follow this tip: open My Computer, click on Tools, then Folder Options. Now click on the View tab. Scroll down to "Launch folder windows in a separate process," and enable this option. You'll have to reboot your machine for this option to take effect.
Disable unnecessary services. Windows XP loads a lot of services that your customer most likely does not need. To determine which services you can disable for your client, visit the Black Viper site for Windows XP configurations.
Following any of these suggestions should result in noticeable improvements to the performance and reliability of your customers' computers. If you still want to defrag a disk, remember that the main benefit will be to make your data more retrievable in the event of a crashed drive.

There are so many different ways to turn off your Windows XP computer, let's look at some of them:


The standard approach - click the Start Button with your mouse, then select the Turn Off menu and finally click the Turn Off icon on the Turn Off computer dialog. blink.gif
Press Ctrl+Esc key or the Win key and press u two times - the fastest approach.
Get the Shutdown utility from Download.com - it add the shut down shortcuts for you. Else create them yourself using approach
Create a shutdown shortcut on your desktop. Right click on the desktop, choose New Shortcut and type shutdown -s -t 00 in the area where you are asked to specify the location of the program file. Now you can just double click this icon to turn off the computer. The best location would be your quick launch bar.
Press the Win key + R key to open the run window. Type shutdown -s -t 00. [s means shutdown while t means the duration after which you want to initiate the shutdown process].

If some open processes or application won't let you turn off, append a -f switch to force a shut down by closing all active processes.
Win+M to minimize all windows and then Alt+F4 to bring the Turn Off computer dialog.
Open Windows Task manager (by right clicking the Windows Task bar or Alt+Ctrl+Del) and choose Shut down from the menu. Useful when the Windows are not responding.

Reboot your computer while holding down the F8 Key. At theAdvanced Options Menu select the option for Safe Mode and press Enter.

To run the Recovery Console from CD boot with the Windows XPCD (or with the optional 6 floppy disk set) and select "R" at the WelcomeScreen.
The screen will switch to black and you will be asked whichinstallation to log on to. If you only have one installation you will press "1". Remember that numlock is off at this time.
Next you'll be prompted to enter your Admin password. Bydefault it is created blank so just press Enter.
At the C:\Windows command prompt type "Help" for a list ofcommands you can use.

Windows Xp Error Reporting Closing



Error reporting, what is it and why does Microsoft want you to have it on? Basically whenever your computer crashes Win XP makes a little report of what went wrong and then sends it to Microsoft so they can improve the Windows Operating System. Generally it sounds like a nice idea, but do you really want to be sending reports about your computer to Microsoft? I personally don't and they allow you to shut off this feature. Here's how you do it:

Open your control panel
Click on Performance and Maintenance
Then click on System
Go to the Advance Tab
Click on the Error Reporting button at the bottom
Select Disable Error Reporting
Click the "But notify me when a critical error occurs"
Click Ok Twice.

You can leave out step 7, but I like my operating system to tell me when its had a major error, mainly because I can look up the cause of the error and hopefully find a solution to it on the net or at Microsoft. There you have it, error reporting to Microsoft is off and you don't have to worry about sending a report to Bill Gates.

 2.1 Meaning of Trial Balance
            The third function of accounting summarizing is done by the preparation of Trial Balance. A Trial Balance is the listing of ledger accounts along with their balances extracted from the ledger. The objectives of preparing Trial Balance are:
a)     To check the arithmetical accuracy of books of accounts.
b)     To facilitate the preparation of final accounts.
c)     For easy detection of errors.
2.2 Methods of Preparation
The methods used for the preparation of Trial Balance are:
1.      Balance Method. Trial Balance is prepared by taking up the ledger balances only.
2.      Total Method. Trial Balance is prepared by taking up total of both debits and credit of all ledger accounts.
Normally Balance Method is used for preparing  a Trial Balance.

            The last stage in the accounting process is the preparation of final accounts at the end of the year in the form of Trading, Profit and Loss Account and Balance Sheet.

            These are called financial statements. The object of their preparation is to throw light on the financial results of operation of business during the period under consideration and to know the financial position of the business.

            The procedure for the preparation of final accounts is as follows.
2.3.1   Trading Account is prepared to ascertain Gross Profit or Gross Loss of a business during a given period.

          Compare both sides. If credit side total is more than the debit side, Gross Profit results. If debit side total is more than the credit side, Gross Loss results.
            2.3.2 The second stage in the preparation of final accounts is the preparation of Profit and Loss Account. It can be defined as a report that summarises the revenues and expenses of an accounting period to reflect the changes in various critical areas of firm’s operations.

            Gross Profit from Trading Account is transferred to the credit side of Profit and Loss Account. Gross Loss is debited on the debit side. On the debit side all expenses of indirect nature (connected with sales and distribution) Provisions and Losses are recorded. On the credit side incomes and gains are recorded. By comparing the total of both sides Net Profit/Net Loss is calculated. If credit side is more, net profit occurs and if debit side is more, net loss results.

2.3.4 TREATMENT OF ADJUSTMENTS
            In mercantile system of accounting it is essential to adjust different account before the  preparation of final accounts. Any information given outside the Trial Balance is called an adjustment. The point to be noted here is that any adjustment given double entry incomplete and an adjustment entry is to be passed.

            For working out problems student should remember that an adjustment appears in two places. In dealing with the adjustments the students are to remember that for calculating Profit/Loss only current year’s income and expenses are to be considered.
            The common adjustments are:
1.      Stock at the end (closing stock).
2.      Outstanding  expenses.
3.      Prepaid expenses.
4.      Accrued income/Outstanding income.
5.      Income received in advance
6.      Depreciation
7.      Bad debts
8.      Provision for bad and doubtful debts.
9.      Provision for discount on debtors and creditors.
10. Interest on capital
11. Interest on drawings.
12. Abnormal loss of stock-in-trade
13. Interest on loans or deposits when rate of interest is given
14. Goods taken over by proprietor for personal use.
15. Manager’s commission on profits
1. Stock at the End (Closing Stock)
            This does not appear in Trial Balance. Closing stock is recorded on the credit side of Trading Account and is presented on the assets side of Balance Sheet. In case Closing Stock appears in Trial Balance, it is straightaway recorded in Balance Sheet assets side.

2. Outstanding Expenses
This refers to expenses incurred but not paid. The accounting treatment for outstanding expenses is to add the outstanding expenses to the particular expense account and shown on the debit side of Profit Loss Account. Further the outstanding expense is presented on the liabilities side of Balance Sheet.

3. Prepaid Expenses
            This means expenses incurred during the current year for services to be received in the next accounting year. The accounting treatment is to deduct it from the respective expenses account and it is presented on the assets side of the Balance Sheet.

4. Accrued Income/Outstanding Income
            If income for the current is not received during the year, it is termed as accrued income. It is added to the respective head and shown on the credit side of Profit and Loss Account and appears on the assets side of Balance Sheet.

            If this term is appearing in Trial Balance, then it is straightaway presented on the assets side of the Balance Sheet.

5. Income Received in Advance
            This refers to income received in the current year against which services are to be provided in the next accounting year. If this item appears in the Trial Balance, it will be shown on the liabilities side of the Balance Sheet.

6. Depreciation
            This is an expense on account of fall in value of the asset due to wear and tear, lapse of time or other reasons. It is that portion of depreciable cost of fixed asset allocated to a particular accounting year. This is shown on the debit side of Profit and Loss Account and shown a deduction on the assets side of Balance Sheet. If depreciation is presented in the Trial Balance, then it is charged to the debit side of Profit and Loss Account.

7. Bad debts
When a business organisation becomes certain about non-recovery of the amount from credit customers, it is treated as bad debt. The Journal entry for bad debts is:

            The bad debts given in adjustments is recorded on the debit side of Profit and Loss Account and is shown as a deduction from Sundry Debtors. In case bad debts is given in Trial Balance, then it is debited in the Profit and Loss Account only.

8. Provision for Bad and Doubtful Debts
            Bad debts is a loss to the business and it should be debited to Profit and Loss Account in the year of sales. As the exact amount of bad debts cannot be calculated at the time of sale, it is suggested that provision for bad and doubtful debts is created  in the year of sale by debiting it to the Profit and Loss Account. The amount of bad debts is recorded only when the business becomes certain about non-recovery. This is done by charging bad debts against provision for bad and doubtful debts account created for this purpose.

            Provision is created on debtors balance at the end of the year at a fixed percentage. This is based on experience in the past years or in similar type of business. The financial position of individual debtors is also considered.
            Provision for bad and doubtful debts is debited to Profit and Loss Account and it is shown as a deduction from Sundry Debtors. In case of opening balance of Provision for Bad and Doubtful Debts the amount to be charged to the debit of Profit and Loss Account is calculated as:

                        Bad debts + New provision – Provision in the beginning
            In the Balance Sheet the amount to be deducted from Sundry Debtors will be additional bad debts and Provision for Bad and Doubtful Debts.

9. Provision for Discount on Debtors and Creditors
            From total debtors estimated doubtful debts are deducted to arrive at sound debtors. These people may repay before due date and claim for discount. It is an allowance to be treated as an expense of the business and it should be debited to Profit and Loss Account.
            So, before calculating provision for discount, provision for doubtful debts is deducted from debtors.

Provision for Discount on Creditors
            Provision for discount on creditors is shown on the credit side of Profit and Loss Account and deducted from creditors on liabilities side of Balance Sheet.

10. Interest on Capital
            To calculate the true profit for the year, interest on capital invested by the owner of business is provided in the books and treated as business expense and debited to Profit and Loss Account. In the Balance Sheet this is added to capital on the liabilities side.

11. Interest on Drawings
            Cash, goods or any other asset withdrawn by the owner for his personal use is called as drawings. On anything withdrawn by the proprietor interest is charged by the business. This is an income to the business and credited to the Profit and Loss Account. In the Balance Sheet this is to be deducted from capital like drawings on the liabilities side.

12. Abnormal Loss of Stock-in-Trade
            Stock-in-trade may be lost by theft and natural calamities like fire, flood, storm and earthquake. Then such loss is to be recorded on the credit side of Trading Account. The treatment of this loss may be tackled on the basis of the situation given in the problem. The possibilities are:
a)     Stock subject to full coverage of insurance.
b)     Stock not subject to any coverage of insurance.
c)     Stock subject to partial coverage of insurance.

13. Interest on Loans or Deposits when Rate of Interest is given
            The business organisation might have borrowed money or deposited money as investments. In both the cases the rate of interest is given. Then the interest amount is to be calculated. Interest on loan is an expenditure and is shown on the debit side of Profit and Loss Account. in Balance Sheet this is presented on the liabilities side with loan amount. In the second case it is an income and it is to be presented on the credit side of Profit and Loss Account and on the assets side of Balance Sheet.

14. Goods taken over by Proprietor for Personal Use
            Goods may be taken over by the proprietor for personal use/consumption. This is done at cost price.

15. Manager’s Commission on Profits
            The calculation of commission payable to a manager is made in any one of the following ways:
a)     Commission on profits before charging such commission.
b)     Commission on profit after charging such commission.

            This is calculated by preparing Trading and Profit and Loss Account and calculated with the help of the following formula:
